Hands on workshops tailored for professionals to improve the style, clarity, and impact of client communications.
Most effective when you bring examples of your own work to work with, these workshops (or one-to-one sessions) also incorporate generous quantities of good and bad examples for discussion, as well as covering how to tailor your words for various kinds of audiences and clients.
We talk about things like: • Why you need to write differently for different audiences and how to do that • When and how to use casual/informal/formal language and cultural differences • Typical mistakes non-native speakers make when writing in English and how to avoid them.
Past participants say this workshop helps them feel more "confident and comfortable" in their writing, and their colleagues notice a "clear improvement" in what they write.
Offered both in groups and to individuals.
Writing and Marketing
I'm experienced at helping law firms and consultancies write and polish their written materials (marketing materials, reports, proposals, etc.) and tailor them to the target audience. My focus is on helping you developing a unique and effective voice and tone for the firm that is appropriate for the target clients.
I'm especially good at editing non-native English speakers, so that you say what you mean in a natural and professional way.
Writing for High School Students
In one of my most rewarding (and fun!) experiences, I was invited by the Anatolia High School and the American Farm School, both in Thessaloniki Greece, to lead intensive writing workshops to help their college-bound students to write more expressively about their personal experiences.
These workshops were initiated by counselor recognition that while students had academic writing skills, they were not fully expressing the breadth of their life experience in college admissions essays.
Playing Around Istanbul Creativity Workshops
Here's how Forbes described the workshop I did with my fabulous partner in crime Melissa Dinwiddie. Intrigued? Sign up for updates on my upcoming workshops here.
"Two expat Americans have devised a clever way to deepen the Istanbul experience by helping visitors to experience the artistic energy that fuels the city by way of their own clever, creativity workshops. Seductively entitled “Playing Around Istanbul,” their program is designed to engage the mind, recharge the spirit, release creativity and expand cultural horizons.
Melissa Dinwiddie, artist, “inspirationist” and “blogiste” and Kelly Hevel, a long-time Istanbul-resident who has made it her business to poke into the “back doors” of her adopted home will guide you into the hidden nooks and crannies to meet local artists and a variety of lively characters – people and places tourists could never discover on their own."
