Happy Friday everyone! I want to check in quickly before the weekend begins with a few thoughts on finding “your people”.
With the overwhelm we all feel due to work, world news, and social media, it’s easy to neglect connecting with people you can really talk to. Social media groups are great for some things, but there’s nothing like actually sitting down face to face over coffee or drinks and sharing your problems and triumphs with people who can really understand them.
I’ve been talking to and interviewing lots of people lately about their work, and whether they are working mothers or busy entrepreneurs (or both), they all have one thing in common: they feel alone with their problems and just having someone to talk to brings them relief and perspective.
I know how they feel, I feel it too sometimes. I’ve decided to address this by taking action and setting up a twice-monthly group in my city with a few people I have lots in common with where we meet up in person, and just chat about our work challenges. Not to market ourselves to each other or find solutions, just a place where we can talk about our professional challenges in a casual setting over a drink. I’ve gone about setting up this group by reaching out to professional women because that’s the kind of support I need. You may want to reach out to other working moms, or whoever it is you feel a need to talk to.
So have a great weekend, and reach out for what you need--I guarantee you aren't the only one feeling it. Even an introvert like me sometimes needs a friendly ear!
